Aktion Demographischer Wandel   Im Frühjahr 2003 entschied sich die Bertelsmann Stiftung, ihren Beitrag zur Lösung einer der zentralen Herausforderungen für die Zukunftsfähigkeit unserer Gesellschaft auf den Weg zu bringen. Die Aktion Demographischer Wandel entstand als Leitprojekt der Bertelsmann Stiftung. Ihr Anspruch: Demographischen Wandel neu bewerten – als Chance für einen umfassenden Reformprozess unserer Gesellschaft.

Berlin-Institut für Bevölkerung und Entwicklung   Das elektronische Handbuch zum Thema Bevölkerung informiert in kurzen Stichworten über Grundbegriffe von Bevölkerungswissenschaft und Bevölkerungsgeographie; über die historische und aktuelle Entwicklung der Bevölkerung weltweit, in Europa und in Deutschland; über Ursachen und Konsequenzen demographischer Entwicklungen. Dabei geht es um Fertilität und Sterblichkeit, Migration, Bevölkerungswachstum und Alterung, Bevölkerungspolitik und Familienplanung. Es geht um die räumliche Verteilung der auf unserer Erde lebenden Menschen. Schließlich geht es um den Zusammenhang zwischen der demographischen Entwicklung auf der einen Seite sowie Ressourcenverbrauch, Ernährungssituation, ökologischer Entwicklung, Bildung und politischen Konflikten andererseits. Dabei enthalten die Artikel nicht nur Informationen zu diesen Wechselbeziehungen, sondern auch Strategien für eine nachhaltige Entwicklung und menschenwürdigere Lebensverhältnisse für alle Menschen.

California Center for Population Research at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA)   Established in 1998, the California Center for Population Research (CCPR) is a cooperative of social science faculty at UCLA who carry out basic and applied research and training in demography. CCPR comprises 36 active faculty researchers from the disciplines of sociology, economics, community health sciences, epidemiology, geography, and policy studies.

Center for Demography and Ecology (University of Wisconsin, USA)   "A multi-disciplinary faculty research cooperative for social scientific demographic research whose membership includes sociologists, rural sociologists, economists, and historians. Current and planned research activities of CDE focus on population composition and distribution within the United States, especially on changes in family structure and process and social inequality, but the total range of research and training activities of CDE members is far broader in content and scope".

Center on the Economics and Demography of Aging, University of California at Berkeley   CEDA is one of the nine centers established by the National Institute on Aging for developing the relatively new field of the demography of aging.The research currently clusters around two themes, analysis and forecasting of mortality and populations at both the aggregate and micro level, and life cycle planning, asset accumulation and interage transfers as motivated by needs in old age. Pilot projects funded by the new Center will establish a third theme, elderly health status and health care utilisation. The website contains data on US Mortality Estimates and Projections, details of working papers and links to other sites relating to the demography of aging plus some additional sites relating to more general themes.

Centre for Population Studies   The Centre for Population Studies (CPS) is a research unit within the Department of Epidemiology and Population Health of the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. CPS is engaged in the measurement and explanation of population trends and in the evaluation of attempts to modify them. The Centre is active in research both on Britain and Europe and on the demography of developing countries.The website contains details of the research being carried out plus an extensive list of links of interest to demographers.

Committee for International Cooperation in National Research In Demography (CICRED)   CICRED is a non-governmental organization founded in 1972 with the aim of developing cooperation amongst national population centres and encouraging new research. It also establishes a link between research centres and international organizations, the main activities of which lie in the field of demography. The web site provides details about CICRED, details of its publications including links to publications such as Reviews of Population Reviews, details of seminars and also extensive links to other demography sites.

European Centre on Health of Societies in Transition   In 1997, the European Centre on Health of Societies in Transition (ECOHOST) was established at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. It conducts research and analyse policy on health and health care in the ‘transition’ countries of Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.

European Forum for Migration Studies - EFMS   The Web site of the European Forum for Migration Studies (efms). The efms academic research center based at the University of Bamberg specialises in research relating to the history, causes, and consequences of migration in Europe. The Web site provides information on the purpose of the institute and its current research activities. It includes links to information concerning its own publications, projects, conferences, and members as well as a chronology of news stories relating to migration entitled the Migration Report.
