Mikko Myrskylä

I am Director of the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research and Professor of Social Data Science at the University of Helsinki. I joined the MPIDR from the London School of Economics where I served as Full Professor of Demography. I am the PI of ERC Synergy project BIOSFER: Untangling the causes of low fertility in modern societies, with Co-PIs Siri Eldevik Håberg from Norway and Cecilia Ramlau-Hansen from Denmark; and Director of the Max Planck-University of Helsinki Center for Social Inequalities in Population Health, with Co-Director Pekka Martikainen. My training includes a PhD in Demography from the University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in Statistics from the University of Helsinki, and most of my work focuses on population health, fertility dynamics, and demographic forecasting.
