Former MPIDR Director Joshua Goldstein elected to the American Academy

On April 12, 2017, former  MPIDR Director Joshua R. Goldstein was elected one of the 228 new members of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Joshua R. Goldstein is one of the six new members elected in the American Academy section that includes Anthropology, Sociology, Geography, Demography and Archaeology.

The new class will be inducted at a ceremony in October, in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Founded in 1780, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences is one of the oldest learned societies and independent policy research centers in the US, convening leaders from the academic, business, and government sectors.

Joshua R. Goldstein was Director of the MPIDR from 2007 to August 2013. His research interests include family demography, fertility, marriage, aging, and demographic forecasting. In August 2013,  he was appointed Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, where he also heads the Department of Demography.
