The Comparative Family Policy Database was assembled under the direction of Anne H. Gauthier.
Over the years, three different versions of the database have been released.
  • Version 1 of the database covered the period 1970-1990 and was used in the publication: Gauthier, A.H., Hatzius, J. (1997). 'Family policy and fertility: An econometric analysis'. Population Studies. 51: 295-306.

  • Version 2 covered the period 1970 - 1999 and was used in the publication: Gauthier, A. (2002), Family policies in industrialized countries: is there convergence? Population .57.3: 447-474.

  • Version 3 has been considerably revised and updated. The Comparative Family Cash Benefits Database now covers the period 1960-2008, while the "Comparative Maternity, Parental, and Childcare Leave and Benefits Database" contains data for the period 1960-2010. Users of previous versions should be aware that values of some of the variables have been altered in this new version to reflect new sources and/or revised series. Please consult the codebook for more information.
