Avery is a doctoral candidate in Human Development and Family Studies at The Pennsylvania State University, her research focuses on peer relationships in childhood and adolescence. She defines herself as an applied developmental methodologist and prevention scientist. She has advanced training in quantitative analyses, including methods for analyzing longitudinal longitudinal data, multilevel regression modeling, and social network analysis.
She has received extensive training in prevention and intervention science thanks to her close-knit affiliation with the Edna Bennett Pierce Prevention Research Center at The Pennsylvania State University. She is interested in doing work that can translate to prevention efforts for youth risk behavior, with the ultimate goal of improving youth wellbeing.
