W1-Professorship for Computational Social Sciences

The Faculty of Economic and Social Sciences at the University of Rostock, in cooperation with the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR), seeks to fill the following position by the next possible date - subject to budgetary regulations

W1-Professorship for Computational Social Sciences

The main duty of the selected person is to perform scientific tasks in the area of "Computational Social Sciences" at the MPIDR. It is expected that they will develop extensive research activities in the areas of migration and science studies in cooperation with the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences of the University of Rostock (Institute of Sociology and Demography). The selected person is expected to further strengthen the cooperation between computational social sciences and other areas of social sciences, especially demography and sociology, at the University of Rostock and the MPIDR. They are expected to participate in the further development of central research projects in the areas of migration and/or mobility at the MPIDR. In addition to the acquisition of third-party funding, this also includes conceptual contributions to the strategic development of research topics as well as the development of new interdisciplinary fields of application. In addition to research activities in the above-mentioned areas, the development of national and international research collaborations is expected. Furthermore, the responsible development and implementation of teaching courses in the amount of 2 SWS in English and German language belongs to the tasks.

We are looking for a committed research personality who is able to represent the field in research and teaching. The research area should be developed equally in depth and breadth at the University of Rostock and at the MPIDR.

The University of Rostock has bundled its interdisciplinary research activities into four departments. It is expected that the selected person will contribute to one of these interdisciplinary departments.

Qualifications are as per § 62 (1) of the Higher Education Act of the State of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (LHG MV). If there has been a period of employment as a member of scientific staff or as a scientific assistant in Germany, before or after completion of the doctorate, it is required that the doctorate period and the employment period combined have not exceeded nine years.

In accordance with § 61 para. 3 LHG M-V, the junior professorship will be filled for an initial period of 3 years in an employment relationship with the MPIDR based on the junior professor salary W1. For this purpose, the position holder will be granted leave of absence from the University of Rostock without remuneration ("Jülich Model"). The employment relationship will be extended for a further three years after a positive evaluation.

A special focus is placed on academic achievement and teaching qualifications as well academic organization and administration. For this reason, candidates should describe previous teaching results, ideas regarding future teaching (including didactic lesson planning) and their prior experience in academic and scientific management.
