Estimating Mortality Heterogeneity

Jutta Gampe, Timothy Riffe, Paul Eilers, Adrien Remund; in Collaboration with Philippe Lambert (University of Li├Ęge, Belgium)

Mortality is heterogeneous across the subgroups of a population. Estimating the underlying variability in mortality is of genuine interest in order to, for example, determine best-practice mortality. The naïve approach of picking the smallest observed death rate can lead to large fluctuations and zero mortality. A latent distribution approach can avoid these problems.Detailed description
