Applications of Data Mining Approaches to Demographic Data within the Context of Attitudes

Ayşe Abbasoğlu Özgören from the Hacettepe University Institute of Population Studies (HUIPS) in Ankara presented selected findings of the project “Roles Attributed to Women in Turkey and the World: Analyses of Attitudes and Politics with Data Mining Methods” .

Abstract

The presentation will be based on selected findings of the project led by Ayşe Abbasoğlu Özgören (Dept. of Demography), Duygu İçen (Dept. of Statistics) and Anıl Boz Semerci (Dept. of Business Administration) titled "Roles Attributed to Women in Turkey and the World: Analyses of Attitudes and Politics with Data Mining Methods", funded by Hacettepe University Scientific Research Projects Coordination Unit (HU-BAP) with the code of SÇP-2020-18179. This project, which has a transdisciplinary nature, is related to the fields of sociology, demography, business and statistics, and aims to provide scientific contributions to these fields on the roles attributed to women, work-family conflicts and gender roles.

Ayşe Abbasoğlu Özgören is an Assistant Professor of demography at Hacettepe University Institute of Population Studies (HUIPS) in Ankara, Türkiye. She completed her PhD in demography at the same department in the year of 2015. She has a background in economics from Middle East Technical University, and has two Masters degrees (1) in economics from Stockholm School of Economics and (2) in economic and social demography from HUIPS. She spent few months in Stockholm University Demography unit in 2014 to write her thesis. Her research interests include migration and forced migration, linkages between female labor force participation, fertility and event history analysis. Her ongoing work are on Syrian migrants’ economic and demographic integration in Turkey, and union formation and dissolution practices of Turkish migrants and their descendants in Germany.  She is a member of Turkish Population Association and European Association for Population Studies.
