Workshop

Introduction: Digital and Computational Demography

Emilio Zagheni
Cornell University, February 06, 2020

Data science tools offer social scientists the opportunity to address core demographic questions in new ways. Emilio Zagheni will introduce the participants of the workshop "Digital and Computational Demography" at Cornell University to some of them.

Rapid increases in computational power and the explosion of Internet, social media and mobile phone use have changed the way we interact with each other and led to the so-called “data revolution” that is transforming social sciences. Data science tools offer social scientists the opportunity to address core demographic questions in new ways. This workshop provides an overview of core demographic and social science methods that are essential to interpret digital trace data, with emphasis on critical thinking about modern demographic analysis and (big) data-driven discovery.
