Life expectancy in India is tapering off

Life expectancy in India, in itself an important indicator of the country’s development, is tapering off: The rapid increase seen in previous years has come to a worrying halt, while the difference between individual regions can be as much as 10 years or more. A study conducted by the MPIDR researchers Vladimir M. Shkolinkov and Domantas Jasilionis and the indian researcher Nandita Saikia confirms this trend. Just like the country itself, India’s demographics reveal some striking inequalities.
