New Chief Research Coordinator

On April 1, André Schmandke succeeded Frans Willekens in taking over the management of the Institute. Previously, the 33-year-old had coordinated the Max Planck International Research Network on Aging for two years.
André Schmandke first studied biochemistry in Tübingen and neurosciences in Yale, and then earned his PhD in neuroscience at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich (ETH). André Schmandke’s research mainly focused on the regeneration of the central nervous system. He is author of several publications in renowned journals. In-between, he even started his own business together with his twin brother Antonio Schmandke.
André Schmandke is already well acquainted with the work that research coordination at the MPIDR involves: He was deputy research coordinator in the last two years before taking up his new position.
