Workshop on "Determinants of Healthy Longevity in China" at the MPIDR Rostock

The workshop on "Determinants of Healthy Longevity in China" is taking place at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) in Rostock, August 2nd to 4th, 2004. Its main focus is on healthy longevity of the oldest-old in China. Prof. James Vaupel, director of the MPIDR, opens the conference - organized jointly and in the main by Yi Zeng, Professor at the University of Duke and Peking University, and the MPIDR - on Monday at 9:00 am.

The workshop forms part of the research project "Determinants of Healthy Longevity in China". The project compiles extensive data on a large population of oldest-old in order to determine the factors that play an important role in healthy longevity - out of a large array of social, behavioural, biological, and environmental risk factors. The simultaneous consideration of different risk factors and the use of analytical strategies based on demographic concepts make this an innovative demographic data collection and research project.

Members of the MPIDR and other national and international scientists will present papers in the workshop. Among the guests are researchers from Europe, North America, and China.
