The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, located in the Hanseatic and University City of Rostock, is one of the leading demographic centers in the world, with a current workforce of approx. 135 people. Research Assistant 

in full-time position (39 hours/week), limited to 1.5 years, and to start as soon as possible.

Your Responsibilities

  • Assisting in the project “Strengthening a reliable evidence base for monitoring the COVID-19 and other disasters”, a temporary research project funded by the Volkswagen Foundation 
  • Supporting the colleagues in the Laboratory of Demographic Data in their work on the Human Fertility Database, Human Mortality Database, and the Human Life Table Database, with activities e.g., involving Internet research, database work, and user contact 
  • Developing, creating and maintaining a catalog with information on various internal data sets for use by all Institute employees 
  • Assisting the research work of colleagues in the Laboratory of Demographic Data and the whole Institute 
  • Creating supplementary documents and tables
  • Fertility and Global Challenges

Your Profile

  • A bachelor degree from a university or another institution of higher education or an equivalent degree, preferably in the social and economic sciences, epidemiology, computer science, data science, mathematics, or statistics 
  • A strong interest in providing services to science and in collaborating with the scientific community
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Sound knowledge of standard software applications (MS Office)
  • Knowledge of programming language R and of standard statistical software packages (e.g., STATA) is desirable
