Abstract

The study "Migration, gender and cognitive decline over the life-course: an intersectional perspective" explores the complex relationships between migration, gender, and cognitive decline throughout the life-course, focusing on the contribution of the age at migration, and using an intersectional framework. Cognitive decline, a critical concern in aging populations, has been shown to vary significantly across different demographic groups. However, limited research has investigated the intersection of migration and gender as determinants of cognitive health. This study aims to fill this gap by analyzing longitudinal data, and evaluating the role of age at migration.

About

Giulia comes from the University of Hamburg, where she works as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Socioeconomics. Her research interests broadly center around health, well-being, and labor market inequalities. She addresses various topics, including health inequalities in midlife and later life, employment insecurity across the life course, and gender inequalities. Her analytical approach can best be described as theory-driven quantitative research. Her modelling technique involves examining variation within individuals over time using longitudinal data, differences between individuals across various spatial and cultural contexts, or applying quasi-experimental designs with panel models.

The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) in Rostock is one of the leading demographic research centers in the world. It's part of the Max Planck Society, the internationally renowned German research society.
