1:00 PM: Talk with Solveig Cunningham - Compression or Expansion of Morbidity?

Abstract

Over the past century, we have seen the greatest increases in survival ever recorded. Have these dramatic increases in life expectancy led to longer, healthier lives, or longer years with disease and disability? We use 30 years of nationally representative data from the United States to examine changes in the age-specific prevalence and incidence of some of the most common chronic diseases and multimorbidity, or multiple chronic diseases. We use data from the Panel Study of Income Dynamics (PSID) and the Health and Retirement Study (HRS), pooled and survey-adjusted to be representative of adults ages 50 years and older between 1995 and 2020.
