During the 28th International Workshop on Statistical Modelling PhD student Silvia Rizzi from the Laboratory of Statistical Demography won the Toyota Motor Corporation Award for the best student poster. The winner is selected by the Scientific Committee of the workshop and the price is sponsored by the Leonard N. Stern School of Business, New York University.
Silvia Rizzi presented her work on “Efficient ungrouping of coarse histograms with the penalized composite link model”, which she will apply in her research on cancer incidence and mortality at high ages. To facilitate comparisons it may be necessary to ungroup information that previously was available only in coarse age-groups, such as 85 years and older, and Silvia Rizzi’s approach allows to achieve this efficiently by requiring minimal assumptions.
The International Workshop on Statistical Modelling was held from July 8 – 12 in Palermo. During this annual workshop about 200 statisticians convene to present and discuss recent developments in statistical modelling arising from applications in various disciplines. Each year innovative contributions by junior researchers are honored by student awards.
