As the first occupational trainee of the MPIDR, Ralf Behrendt has successfully qualified as IT specialist in July.

The traineeship, with specialization in system integration, lasted three years. In this specialty, the trainees primarily learn how to link together hard and software components. The traineeship was successfully completed following an examination and an assignment on remote-access, i.e. ways of providing staff at the MPIDR with access to IT-resources, such as the Intranet and databases, from outside the institute.

“Particularly exciting is that the MPIDR is using the newest technologies. And the work here is much more diverse than in other organizations, because these are specialized mostly in one particular technology only,”  says Ralf Behrendt. To take up his traineeship, Ralf Behrendt, today aged 20, even left his hometown and moved to Rostock. After traineeship completion he was given a work contract. Next year, he wants to catch up on his ”Abitur” (a German university entrance qualification) and then take up university studies.

“To accompany the first trainee through the journey is, of course, connected with a lot or work,” says Dirk Vieregg, leader of the IT group, who jointly with his colleagues Holger Schwadtke and Rainer Walke looked after training. ”But it was fun nevertheless.”

The second trainee started his occupational training in fall last year. From now on, says trainer Dirk Vieregg, the Institute will offer a training position as a qualified IT specialist every two years .
