The Rostock Open Science Workshop will introduce demographic researchers to the tools and practices of open science. The Workshop will be held at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) on October 10th and 11th, 2019.
Open science aims at making research results and materials open and reproducible. Its goals are to increase transparency and to make research accessible to a wider public.
The Rostock Open Science Workshop will introduce demographic researchers to the tools and practices of open science. The Workshop will be held at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research, Rostock, on October 10-11, 2019.
This two-day event aims to introduce the basics of open science, giving both tools and practical advice to adopt open science practices in demographic research. The Workshop will cover strategies to make research reproducible and accessible to a wider public.
It will provide a space for participants to discuss and to reflect on their research practice. Keynote speakers for the Workshop are leaders of the open science movement and push the boundaries of open population science. Hands-on practical sessions with expert instructors from a variety of disciplines will enable the participants to use open science tools in their everyday work.

How to apply
Limited places are available for external participants. If you want to participate in the Workshop, please send an application to open.science@demogr.mpg.de by July 19, 2019.
The application should be a single PDF-file including (1) a CV and (2) a paragraph describing your motivation for participating in the Workshop. Please also indicate if you are primarily an R or Stata user or work with other software. Applicants should have received a PhD, or should be enrolled in a PhD program. Please get in touch if this does not apply to you but you are interested in participating.
There are no tuition fees for the Workshop. Participants are expected to pay their own transportation and living costs. For students or junior scientists with financial limitations there will be a limited number of travel stipends to cover travel and accommodation. Please state in your application if you also want to apply for a travel stipend.
