Genetics and Demography

Sociologist Melinda Mills from the University of Groningen will give a lecture at the MPIDR titled “Fertile Frontiers: Towards genetically-informed demographic research to study fertility”.

Vita
Melinda Mills studied Sociology and Demography at the University of Alberta (Canada) and obtained a Phd in Demography at the University of Groningen (Netherlands). Today Melinda Mills is a full Professor of Sociology at the Faculty of Behavioural and Social Sciences at the University of Groningen. She is also Editor-in-Chief of the European Sociological Review and author of the book entitled “Introducing Survival and Event History Analysis” (London: Sage, 2011). In 2010 she was awarded a large mid-career grant for the project ‘Is Fertility is the Genes? Unravelling gene-environment interaction and fertility postponement’.

Her research and publications focus primarily on family formation (fertility, partnerships), employment, cross-national comparisons, and survival and event history methods.
