On 15 October, the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) in Rostock hosted a symposium on scholarly migration and scientific mobility, organized by Ebru Şanlıtürk, Aliakbar Akbaritabar, Tom Theile and Emilio Zagheni.
The organizers brought together researchers from different disciplines and countries. Thanks to the participants engagement and contributions, they had interesting presentations on different aspects of scholarly migration and mobility and stimulating discussions.
All participants learned more about different data sources and contextual perspectives currently used to study scholarly migration and mobility. “We also had the opportunity to showcase the Scholarly Migration Database (SMD) and related work carried out by researchers at MPIDR”, says Aliakbar Akbaritabar.
“We are very happy that the event was a success, thanks to the valuable contributions of the symposium participants and the subsequent lively discussions. We hope that this event can inspire more collaborative work among the participants and more interest in this topic among the general public in the future. We will now move forward to work on the special issue as part of the journal Quantitative Science Studies that would serve as the final outcome of the event”, says Ebru Şanlıtürk
