The research offers a typology of the Romany families, in dependence of the marriage legitimation, group settled and the economical strategies. The similarities and differences in the kinship terminology of the fifth main groups: Calderash, Tinsmiths, Horahane roma, Daskane roma and Ludara are studied. A structural diagram of the Romany identity is offered as well as a classification of the Romany subgroups.
The study presents three cultural patterns, coexisting today in Romany community in Bulgaria, and the social effects of any one of them. The term double social anomie is introduced as a case of conflict between the cultural prescribed goals and the social ways of their achievement in the context of a permanent bicultural existence. The Romany concept about shame is shown as a core of the Romany everyday life.
