The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) celebrated its 25th anniversary with an online event, including a journey through the Institute’s history and a panel discussion on data-driven research.

The celebration with more than 220 guests started with greetings by the European Commission’s Vice President for Democracy and Demography Dubravka Šuica.

Max Planck Society’s Vice President Ulman Lindenberger, the Rector of the University of Rostock Wolfgang Schareck, and MPIDR Founding Director James W. Vaupel continued with greetings.

A new visualized journey through MPIDR’s history was launched and is now available online: demogr.mpg.de/go/timeline

Former research group leaders recalled their time at the institute

The panel discussion “Exciting Data and Cutting-Edge Methods: Past, Present and Future of Data-Driven Research at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research” with Monica Alexander, Michaela Kreyenfeld, Karl Ulrich Mayer, Mikko Myrskylä, and Emilio Zagheni crowned the event.

Monica Alexander wrote down thoughts about the future of data-driven demographic research in her blog right after the panel discussion.

The celebrations ended with a virtual get-together for the guests to continue their conversations.
