Dr. Bettina Hünteler (Research Group Kinship Inequalities) received the Best Paper Award of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Demographie e.V. on March 21, 2024. She was honored again for her study "A New Perspective on the Generational Structures of Families - Generational Placements over the Life Course". The Deutschen Gesellschaft für Demographie e.V. (DGD) promotes demographic research and teaching as well as the exchange between science and social actors. The aim of the DGD is to disseminate demographic knowledge and to improve the options for dealing with demographic developments. The award ceremony took place during the DGD's annual conference in Hamburg.

The jury was impressed by the article "A New Perspective on the Generational Structures of Families - Generational Placements over the Life Course". The article was Bettina Hünteler's first dissertation - submitted to the University of Cologne - in which she identifies six different typical patterns of individual family life courses. The patterns of individual life courses presented provide new detailed insights into how the structure of intergenerational families differs between individuals and evolves across different age groups and socio-historical contexts. "I am very pleased that the basic idea and the empirical implementation of my dissertation have received so much positive feedback. This is a great encouragement for my research to date and a great motivation for my current projects, which are based on this work," says Hünteler.
