Julia Kühne worked for many years in children's and adult education. Since October, she has been the secretary responsible for the MPIDR’s joint research area Demographic Data. She is particularly looking forward to work in an international and academic environment.

Why did you decide to work at the MPIDR?

I have previously worked in education for a long time, with children as well as adults. At the MPIDR, I now have the opportunity to learn a lot of new things, especially with regard to administration. I am particularly pleased to be able to support with my work an Institute that makes a significant contribution to science in Germany. The MPIDR also offers a versatile working environment, and I can speak English regularly again.

What are you particularly looking forward to work at the MPIDR?

I am mostly looking forward to work in an international and academic environment, meeting exciting people, and understanding in the process how a scientific institute works.

What do you like most about Rostock?

I just moved to Rostock from Berlin, so I don't know the city very well yet. But I can say that from the beginning I liked the seagulls, the proximity to the water, and the friendliness of the people. Rostock is also smaller and quieter than Berlin - something that certainly suits me.

Professionally, it's all about your organizational skills. What are you most passionate about besides that?

I'm very enthusiastic about art, whether active or passive. I also like to go for walks in nature, and I love horror movies.

The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) in Rostock is one of the leading demographic research centers in the world. It's part of the Max Planck Society, the internationally renowned German research society.
