Lisa Körber is a new research assistant in the Laboratory of Demographic Data. She will work on the project “Strengthening a reliable evidence base for monitoring the COVID-19 and other disasters” for the next one and a half years and also help with work on the Institute’s databases. Lisa studied Demography in Rostock, so she already has many favorite places in the city.

What question drives you most in your research?

I already got to know the inspiring and international research environment at the MPIDR during my time as a student assistant when doing my studies in demography. The multidisciplinary work environment is fascinating. Many researchers from different disciplines focus on different aspects of demographic research at the institute, and I find this exchange among each other very valuable.

What are you particularly looking forward to as you start working at MPIDR?

With so much data available to researchers today, the question of data quality often takes a back seat. The Laboratory of Demographic Data has always focused on providing high quality and comparable data. I find it exciting to also address dataset limitations. As a member of the Data Lab, I would like to make researchers more aware of data quality issues.

What do you like most about Rostock?

As I did my studies in Rostock, I had many opportunities to get to know and love the city. I like the mix of hustle and bustle in the KTV, with numerous cafés, bars and small stores, and quiet corners in the city. Some of my favorite places are the park at Kringelgraben, the Botanical Garden, and the Warnow riverbank in Gehlsdorf. The closeness to the water is unbeatable!

What are you obsessed with at the moment besides demography?

What I like best at the moment is to spend my free time with my dog in nature. My camera mostly with me. I love taking pictures and shooting videos, and I like to catch the special moments of everyday life.

The Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) in Rostock is one of the leading demographic research centers in the world. It's part of the Max Planck Society, the internationally renowned German research society.
