The decision to emigrate

A workshop on the topic of migration will take place at the MPIDR from September 25 to 27. Some 30 researchers from 10 countries will participate in the workshop. They will address the issue of how people make the decision to migrate. This question is relevant to scientists who need to find answers to it in order to predict migration flows.

One aim of the workshop is to identify behavioural theories that are sufficiently specific to be used in the agent-based modeling (ABM) of international migration. The ABM is a computational model for simulating the actions and interactions of autonomous agents. The ultimate aim of modeling the emigration decision is to improve the predictive modeling of international migration.
