Studying International Migration of High-Skilled Professionals by Using Large-Scale Digital Trace Data

Daniela Perrotta, Elizabeth Marie Jacobs, Tom Theile, André Grow-Böser, Emilio Zagheni; in Collaboration with Sarah Charlotte Johnson (MPIDR), Carlos Callejo Penalba (Aalto University, Finland), Kiran Garimella (Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick, USA), Ingmar Weber (Saarland University, Saarbrücken, Germany), Helga de Valk (Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute / University of Groningen, Netherlands)

The causes and consequences of high-skilled migration are difficult to assess, often due to a lack of data. This project leverages a mostly untapped data source, LinkedIn, to study migration intentions and observed mobility patterns of professionals across countries.  Detailed Description
