Project

Working-Life Expectancy at Older Age

Conducted by Mikko Myrskylä; Christian Dudel, Angelo Lorenti; in Collaboration with Jo Mhairi Hale (University of St Andrews, United Kingdom), Elke Loichinger, Sebastian Klüsener (both: Federal Institute for Population Research, Wiesbaden, Germany)

Detailed Description

Working-life expectancy at older age is a major indicator of the success or failure of policy measures to increase the length of working life. This indicator estimates how much of the remaining lifetime will be spent in employment or in labor-market activity. In this project, we assess how working-life expectancy at older age has developed in recent years, how it differs between institutional settings, how it depends on economic trends, and how it differs between socioeconomic groups. In contrast to earlier research, we not only focus on period working-life expectancy but also look at working-life expectancy for birth cohorts, and we use longitudinal survey data and rich register data.
