A team including MPIDR Researchers investigated changes in the union – first birth dynamics from 2000 through 2018 in Finland. The researchers observed a lower fertility in unions after 2010, a long-term decline in marriage rates and increasing dissolution rates among cohabiting couples. more

Coming from the International Institute for Population Sciences in Mumbai, where he obtained his Masters, Adarsh is a new PhD Student in the Laboratory of Population Health and takes part in the joint St Andrews–Max Planck PhD Studentship. He wants to find out how substance abuse influences mortality trends in high-income countries. more

In December 2021, a conference hosted by the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) brought together more than 100 international researchers to present and discuss recent research on the impact and consequences of the pandemic for family and fertility dynamics. A Population and Development Review Supplement co-sponsored by the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research and the Population Council will be based mainly on this conference. more
