Coming from the World Health Organization Regional Office in Cairo, where she worked as an epidemiologist and data analyst focusing on COVID-19 data management and analysis, Manal Elzalabany now coordinates the COVerAGE-DB project at the MPIDR. In her free time she wants to play the violin again more often. more

Volunteering Increases After Retirement

MPIDR Researchers Peter Eibich and Angelo Lorenti and a colleague studied the causal effect of retirement on voluntary work in Europe and the U.S. They found an increase in volunteering rates in all countries analyzed. Their paper was recently published in the journal Labour Economics. more

Depression is a major cause of work disability worldwide. According to current research, the baby boomer generation is particularly affected compared to older generations. To find the reasons, doctoral student Maria Gültzow is investigating how differences in lifestyle between generations influence the risk of developing depression. She presents her results at the "Rostock's Eleven" research competition on June 2. more
