When looking at school grades, researchers did not find any negative effects of being born moderately preterm. Only those born extremely preterm had poorer school grades. But for children born extremely preterm, going to schools in the top decile of school districts made them perform as good as full-term children in an average school district. more

MPIDR Researchers Peter Eibich and Angelo Lorenti and a colleague studied the causal effect of retirement on voluntary work in Europe and the U.S. They found an increase in volunteering rates in all countries analyzed. Their paper was recently published in the journal Labour Economics. more

Depression is a major cause of work disability worldwide. According to current research, the baby boomer generation is particularly affected compared to older generations. To find the reasons, doctoral student Maria Gültzow is investigating how differences in lifestyle between generations influence the risk of developing depression. She presents her results at the "Rostock's Eleven" research competition on June 2. more
