Searching for Reasons for the Rise in Stillbirth Rates in Germany

The stillbirth rate in Germany has been rising steadily since 2009. The reasons for this are still unclear. Researchers at the Max Planck Institute for Demographic Research (MPIDR) and the University of Rostock have used decomposition analysis to investigate the influence of demographic factors such as the age and nationality of pregnant women on the increase in the stillbirth rate in Germany. more

Welcome, Alessandro Feraldi!

Another new face at MPIDR is Alessandro Feraldi from Italy. Alessandro comes from Sapienza University in Rome where he obtained his PhD. The topic of his thesis was “Gender Gap in Health and Survival". His field of research is demography and he has a background in statistics. In his previous research, Alessandro analyzed the gender gap in health and survival, focusing on the contributions of age and causes of death to the gender gap in life expectancy, as well as on social and behavioral risk factors that potentially increase/decrease the gender gap in healthy life expectancy. Alessandro joins the research group Labor Demography as a postdoctoral fellow. more
